Since 2011, the Dwight Fire Protection District's call volume has increased by 78%. This year our department is trending to run an additional 80-120 calls than in 2015. Additionally, our requests for "non-emergency" services have gone through the roof! We do our best to help out wherever we can. In 2015 and 2016, our members have spent over 6,000 hours participating in non-emergency events that include:

  • Public education events at the Dwight Grade School throughout the year
  • Fire Prevention Week activities for area educational centers, daycare facilities, and schools
  • Standby for Dwight Harvest Days
  • Public education presentations at Dwight Springfest
  • Public education presentations at the "Taste of Dwight"
  • Fire Drills at Dwight Grade School and Dwight High School
  • Operation Prom Night for Dwight High School
  • Team Escorts (ie Cheerleaders, Softball, Track, etc.)
  • Church Events
  • Touch-A-Truck Events
  • Area Parades
  • Fourth of July Fireworks Standby
  • Assistance to Village Public Works department
  • Assistance to Village during annual Spring Clean-Up Event
  • Facility Readiness Evaluations for Aldi, RR Donnelley, Heritage Manor, Heritage Woods, PharmaCann, Crop Production Services, and other Farm Chemical Companies within our jurisdiction
  • Buzz the Gut Events
  • Dwight Christmas Parade
  • Dwight Economic Alliance Ride to School Auction Events
  • Dwight Economic Alliance Birthday Party Auction Events

While we have been working hard to increase the number of firefighters available, we still need more help. Specifically, we seek motivated members of the Dwight community to join our organization.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, have a high school education/G.E.D., and have no felony convictions.

We provide uniforms, tuition reimbursement, free training, pay stipends for call and training attendance, and, most importantly, the opportunity to become part of a "second family." This is your chance to give back to the community in which you live.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a member of the Dwight Fire Protection District, please fill out an application that can be downloaded from our website using the application link below and bring it up to the fire station. If you are interested in more information, please call the station at 815-584-2373, or email the Deputy Fire Chief at jpierce@dwightfire.org
